An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the CHP Department as a full-time CHP Operator, at Innovia Films, Wigton.
Innovia Films are a leading global manufacturer of Biaxially Oriented Polypropylene (BOPP) films, supplying highly differentiated speciality products into the packaging, labels, tobacco overwrap and securities markets.
What is this role?
We are looking for a 5 Shift CHP Operator to join our CHP team. Reporting to the CHP Plant Supervisor, the successful candidate will report directly into the CHP Plant Supervisor and will have sole responsibility for operational control of the Wigton CHP plant out of hours, to ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable supply of steam to all production departments for the Wigton site, namely Innovia Films, Futamura & CCL Secure.
The responsibilities of the role will include:
- Carry out Safety Critical functional tests in accordance with HSE guidelines and Pressure Systems compliance and keep records accordingly.
- Monitor & Test Boiler Feedwater quality to maintain strict operating standards and adjust as required for any non-compliance.
- Monitoring of Reverse Osmosis Water Treatment Plant for correct operation and make necessary adjustments to maintain boiler feedwater supply.
- Monitoring of 4 x CAT 2 Steam Boilers & 1 CAT 3 Steam Boiler for safe operation and process conditions and adjust as required.
- Monitor the operation of 8MW Gas Turbine Generator & 4.5MW Gas Engine Generator, carry out routine checks and adjust power output to reduce site electrical import (significant cost to business)
- Maintain a knowledge of plant operation best practices and safety protocols, which will include 5-yearly refresher training and re-testing to maintain BOAS accreditation.
- Check correct operation of auxiliary equipment such as pumps, air compressors, gas compressor, filtration equipment and act on/report any defects.
- Start/stop of all Boilers and Generators and have the knowledge to take appropriate decisions to make safe in cases of emergency.
- 24/7 monitoring of the Site Fire Alarm System, providing first response in the event of a Fire, spillage, or Fume alert, liaising directly with ERT, Site Incident Controller, and external emergency response (Cumbria Fire & Rescue).
What skills will you need?
The successful candidate must show commitment, flexibility and teamwork skills to work within the 5 person CHP team.
The successful candidate will have good observational skills and a key eye for detail. You will be able to work well under pressure, having the ability to use their own initiative, working with minimal supervision, and demonstrate the ability to recognise developing faults and action repairs as required.
The successful candidate must also have a basic understanding of operational control concepts, plus knowledge of Steam and Power Generation would be a distinct advantage for any potential candidates.
It is also a requirement to attend various training courses and be successful in completing the CertIBO (BOAS) qualification within the probationary period.
