St Francis Dogs Home is seeking a dedicated and experienced Volunteer HR Trustee to join our Board of Trustees. This is an exciting opportunity to use your HR expertise to support the governance and strategic direction of a well-established animal welfare charity dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming dogs in need.
As our HR Trustee, you will provide guidance on people-related matters, helping to ensure the charity follows good employment practices, remains compliant with relevant employment legislation, and continues to foster a positive and inclusive working environment for staff and volunteers. Your expertise will play an important role in supporting the long-term success and sustainability of the charity.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic HR advice and guidance to the Board of Trustees.
- Support the development and review of HR policies, procedures and best practices.
- Ensure the charity remains compliant with current employment legislation and governance requirements.
- Advise on recruitment, retention and succession planning for staff and volunteers.
- Promote equality, diversity, inclusion and wellbeing across the organisation.
- Support the Board in overseeing performance management, employee relations and organisational development where appropriate.
- Contribute to discussions on organisational strategy, culture and workforce planning.
- Attend regular Trustee Board meetings and actively participate in decision-making.
- Act as an ambassador for St Francis Dogs Home, supporting its mission and values.
Person Specification
We are looking for someone who has:
- Experience working in Human Resources, ideally in a senior HR or HR management role.
- A good understanding of UK employment law and HR best practice.
- Strategic thinking skills with the ability to provide objective advice and challenge constructively.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A commitment to good governance and ethical decision-making.
- An interest in supporting animal welfare and the work of St Francis Dogs Home.
- Previous trustee or charity experience is welcome but not essential, as guidance and support will be provided.
