Due to our ongoing expansion we are currently looking for a yard operative:
The job role involves the following aspects:
- Receive, check, count and sign for deliveries, reporting any discrepancies promptly.
- Carry out regular stock checks and ensure materials, including ironwork, kerbs and other items, are correctly allocated to the relevant jobs.
- Maintain an organised yard, ensuring stock and materials are stored in designated areas and are clearly separated by job. This will enable 7.5-tonne vehicles, hookloaders and other vehicles to load efficiently without unnecessary searching or delays.
- Liaise with site teams, drivers and the Plant & Logistics Manager to confirm stock requirements and ensure the correct materials and equipment are available for each job.
- Assist with loading 7.5-tonne vehicles and hookloaders to minimise turnaround times and ensure deliveries remain on schedule.
- Prepare and load plant and equipment onto low-loaders ready for transportation to site.
- Ensure plant and equipment required by drivers is prepared and ready for collection or delivery.
- Clean and refuel plant equipment before low-loaders arrive, helping to minimise vehicle waiting times within the yard.
- Drive 7.5-tonne wagons and hookloaders as required, subject to holding the appropriate driving licence and any required training.
- Take HGVs for inspections as required, subject to holding the appropriate driving licence.
- Take company vans and vehicles to and from Northgate for servicing and MOTs as required. This responsibility will transfer to the relevant service providers once the new van fleet is in place.
- Assist the Plant & Logistics Manager with the delivery and collection of small plant and equipment.
- Carry out minor routine plant maintenance, such as greasing, in coordination with the Workshop Manager.
- Maintain yard security by opening and locking the gates during normal working hours and reporting any security concerns.
- Maintain the yard in a clean, tidy and safe condition, ensuring plant, equipment and materials are stored appropriately and access routes are kept clear.
- Report damaged, defective or unsafe plant, equipment, vehicles, stock or yard areas to the appropriate manager.
- Carry out any other reasonable duties required to support the Plant and Logistics function and the efficient operation of the yard.
