Malachi Place is a Salvation Army LifeHouse and a key part of the ministry of The Salvation Army in the London Borough of Redbridge. The Recycles workshop, based at Malachi Place, supports the wider mission of the service by promoting practical skills, sustainability and community engagement through bicycle refurbishment, servicing and repair. The Bike Mechanic will play an important role in maintaining workshop operations and delivering a high-quality repair and refurbishment service.
The successful candidate(s) will be able to demonstrate:

Carry out bicycle servicing, maintenance and repairs to a high standard, ensuring all bicycles are safe, roadworthy and fit for purpose.

Diagnose mechanical faults accurately and undertake appropriate repairs, adjustments and component replacements in a timely manner.

Refurbish donated or pre-owned bicycles for reuse or resale, including full rebuilds where required.

Undertake pre-use and post-repair safety checks and ensure all completed work meets appropriate workshop and safety standards.

Maintain a clean, safe, well-organised workshop environment and ensure tools and equipment are used, stored and maintained appropriately.

Work with the Service Manager and Mission Facilitators to maintain accurate records of stock, parts, tools and workshop inventory.

Identify parts, consumables or tools that need to be ordered and communicate these requirements to administration staff in a timely way.

Provide a professional and helpful service to workshop users, customers and colleagues, offering clear explanations and practical advice where appropriate.

Contribute to the ongoing development of the Recycles project by supporting service improvements and working flexibly as the workshop grows.

Fulfil your duties in alignment with all relevant Salvation Army and statutory policies and procedures including health and safety, safeguarding, data protection, equality and diversity.

Undertake any other duties, consistent with the role level, as required for the effective running of the project.
