Pastoral Mentor
Full-Time | Permanent | September Start
We are currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate Pastoral Mentor to join an Alternative Provision from September on a full-time, permanent basis.
The school’s core mission is to prepare young people for a successful transition into adulthood, providing a supportive and nurturing environment for students who may have experienced challenges within mainstream education.
The Role
As a Pastoral Mentor, you will play a key role in supporting the wellbeing, engagement, behaviour and personal development of students. You will build positive and trusting relationships with young people, helping them overcome barriers to learning and develop the confidence and skills needed to succeed.
You will:
- Provide one-to-one and small-group pastoral support to students.
- Build positive, trusting relationships with young people.
- Support students with their emotional wellbeing, behaviour and personal development.
- Help students overcome barriers to education and improve their engagement.
- Encourage positive attitudes towards learning, attendance and achievement.
- Support students in developing independence, resilience, confidence and life skills.
- Work alongside teachers and support staff to provide consistent support.
- Monitor student wellbeing and behaviour and communicate concerns appropriately.
- Contribute to individual support plans and student progress.
- Help create a safe, inclusive and positive environment for all learners.
About You
The successful candidate will be patient, resilient and approachable, with a genuine passion for supporting young people.
You will ideally have:
- Experience working with young people in an educational, youth work, care or support setting.
- Experience supporting students with SEN / additional needs is highly desirable.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to build positive relationships with young people.
- A calm, patient and consistent approach to behaviour management.
- The ability to remain professional and supportive when dealing with challenging situations.
- A genuine commitment to improving outcomes for young people.
- The ability to work effectively as part of a wider team.
