General Assistant – Key Responsibilities
TERM TIME ONLY ROLE.
The General Assistant plays an important role in supporting the kitchen team to provide safe, nutritious, and enjoyable meals to primary school children. Working closely with the Head Cook and Assistant Cook, the postholder will help ensure the smooth delivery of the school meal service while maintaining high standards of food safety, hygiene, and customer care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the preparation and serving of fresh school meals to pupils.
- Serve food in accordance with portion control guidelines to ensure consistency and minimise waste.
- Maintain awareness of allergens and special dietary requirements, ensuring meals are served safely and accurately.
- Provide a positive and friendly service to children, encouraging a pleasant dining experience.
- Assist with setting up and clearing down service areas before and after meal times.
- Support the receipt, checking and storage of deliveries, following stock rotation procedures.
- Carry out cleaning duties including washing up, cleaning kitchen equipment, work surfaces, dining areas and floors.
- Follow all food hygiene, health and safety, safeguarding and school policies at all times.
- Use equipment safely and correctly, including adherence to colour-coded food preparation systems.
- Work collaboratively with the kitchen team to ensure the efficient delivery of the school meals service.
- Participate in training and development activities as required.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties to support the catering service.
The role requires a flexible approach, good teamwork, and the ability to work in a busy environment while maintaining high standards of food safety and customer service.
Pay: £12.71 per hour
