Commis Chef/Chef de Partie

Overview
We are looking for someone with kitchen assistant experience, who is keen to get stuck in supporting the smooth running of the kitchen by assisting with food preparation, maintaining cleanliness, and ensuring high standards of hygiene and food safety are upheld at all times. If cheffing is an ambition of yours this is a great position for you as you will be learning from our current Head Chef, we have a great progression plan, and if it is of interest to you we would be prepared to put you through studies.
We are a freehouse pub in the village of Chideock and pride ourselves on our delicious, hearty, home cooked food. Our menu supports local businesses and makes the most of local ingredients. We are extremely proud of our 5* food hygiene rating and have recently been awarded the Traveller’s Choice 2025 award by TripAdvisor for excellent food and service.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist chefs with basic food preparation (e.g. peeling, chopping, portioning ingredients)- Keep kitchen areas clean and tidy, including work surfaces, floors, and storage areas- Wash dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment promptly and thoroughly- Ensure all food hygiene and health & safety standards are followed- Help with receiving and storing deliveries correctly- Dispose of waste safely and efficiently- Support the team during busy service periods- Carry out any reasonable tasks requested by the chef or manager
Skills & Experience
Essential:
- Good work ethic and reliability- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment- Basic understanding of cleanliness and hygiene
- Strong level of personal hygiene- Team player with a positive attitude
- Previous kitchen assistant experience
Desirable:- Basic food hygiene certificate
Working Hours
Flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays
Part-time with option to become full time.

Pay: £10.85-£12.71 per hour
