Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Nursery Cook to prepare nutritious and appealing meals for our young children. The ideal candidate will have a good knowledge for food preparation and a strong understanding of food safety standards. This role involves creating healthy menus, cooking in a safe environment, and ensuring that all meals meet the dietary needs of our nursery children. The Nursery Cook will play a vital role in supporting the wellbeing and development of our young learners through quality meal provision.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook nutritious meals and snacks suitable for children in accordance with dietary guidelines and nursery policies
- Plan weekly menus, incorporating balanced and varied options to promote healthy eating habits
- Ensure all food is prepared, cooked, and served in line with food safety standards and hygiene regulations
- Maintain cleanliness of the kitchen area, including washing utensils, cleaning surfaces, and storing ingredients appropriately
- Monitor stock levels of ingredients and place orders as necessary to ensure smooth kitchen operations
- Assist with meal portioning and presentation to make meals appealing to children
- Follow allergy protocols and accommodate special dietary requirements when necessary
- Support the nursery team in creating a positive dining environment for children
Skills
- Proven experience in food preparation and cooking, preferably within a childcare or nursery setting
- Knowledge of food safety standards and hygiene practices
- Experience with meal preparation for young children, including understanding of nutritional requirements
- Strong organisational skills to manage kitchen tasks efficiently
- Ability to work independently while maintaining high standards of cleanliness and safety
- Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with nursery staff and caregivers
- Previous experience working in a restaurant or catering environment is advantageous but not essential
