Hewicks Haulage Ltd is a growing haulage company based in Cockfield, Bury St Edmunds. Operating a fleet of over 80 articulated vehicles nationwide, we transport a variety of loads using tankers, curtain siders and containers, with a particular focus on the agricultural sector.
We are looking to recruit an experienced and motivated Transport Planner to join our busy Transport Office. This is a varied and fast-paced role where you will be responsible for planning daily transport operations, supporting drivers, building strong customer relationships and ensuring the efficient delivery of our transport services.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, schedule and allocate daily and weekly transport movements to drivers.
- Monitor live transport operations and respond quickly to any delays or operational issues.
- Ensure compliance with drivers' hours, Working Time Directive and transport legislation.
- Provide day-to-day operational support and guidance to drivers.
- Monitor driver performance, tachograph compliance and vehicle walk-round checks.
- Liaise with customers to provide excellent service and resolve any transport queries.
- Input and maintain accurate job information within the Transport Management System (TMS).
- Maintain accurate transport records and support continuous operational improvements.
- Assist with fleet maintenance scheduling and support the Senior Transport Manager with compliance and cost-saving initiatives.
- Support the induction and development of new drivers.
Required Skills
- Previous experience within a transport planning or road haulage environment.
- Good knowledge of UK transport legislation, including drivers' hours and tachograph regulations.
- Excellent organisational and planning skills with the ability to manage changing priorities.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with both customers and drivers.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and transport planning systems.
- Ability to work under pressure whilst maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
Desirable but Not Essential
- CPC (Operator or Transport Manager Certificate of Professional Competence).
- Experience working within a 24/7 transport or logistics operation.
- Experience supervising or supporting drivers within a transport environment.
- Experience using a Transport Management System (TMS).

Expected Hours
40 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
Participation in the weekend on-call rota (approximately one weekend in four) is required. Flexibility is required to meet the operational needs of the business.
