Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant to support one of our schools in Dudley in creating an inclusive and nurturing learning environment. This paid position offers an opportunity to work closely with children, including those with special educational needs and disabilities, to promote their academic and social development. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, patience, and a passion for mentoring young learners. Prior experience working with children, particularly individuals with autism or other special needs, is highly desirable.
A level 2 or level 3 certification as a teaching assistant is preferred, however we will consider applicants with school experience, in particular those with a background working with SEN.
Duties
- Assist teachers in planning and delivering tailored educational activities suitable for diverse learning needs
- Support children with special educational requirements, including those with autism and behavioural challenges
- Provide one-on-one tutoring and mentoring to help students achieve their academic goals
- Foster a positive classroom environment by encouraging participation and confidence among pupils
- Help manage behaviour and implement strategies to promote inclusivity and engagement
- Support the organisation of learning materials and resources to ensure smooth classroom operations
- Monitor student progress and provide feedback to teachers regarding individual development
- Assist with personal care routines for students where necessary, ensuring their safety and wellbeing
Requirements
- Proven experience working with children in an educational or childcare setting
- Knowledge of special education practices and strategies for supporting individuals with disabilities
- Experience working specifically with individuals with autism is advantageous
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively liaise with pupils, teachers, and parents
- Ability to adapt teaching methods to meet diverse learning needs
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for mentoring young learners
- Relevant qualifications in teaching assistance or special education are preferred but not essential
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment
