The Clinical Negligence department represents Claimants and their families following poor medical treatment. The team at Hugh James are top ranked in both Chambers & Partners and Legal 500, offering one of the largest practices in the UK.

The Role
The role will primarily involve handling a caseload of clinical negligence files in line with the department’s strategy under supervision.
Duties will include:

Working on pre-issue and litigated cases
- Providing advice to clients on sensitive matters
- Maintaining knowledge of clinical negligence complaints handling procedures by GPs and NHS in England and Wales
- Maintaining good knowledge of CPR and the law relating to clinical negligence matters
- Maintaining an understanding of medical issues
- Drafting witness statements
- Instructing experts
- Reviewing medical reports and providing appropriate advice
- Instructing and communicating with Counsel
- Dealing with conferences
- Working with other Solicitors in the department to develop and maintain good client relationships and knowledge within clinical negligence
- Maintaining a professional attitude
- Participating in business development
Skills & Qualifications
We are looking for an ambitious and self-motivated individual who is comfortable working within a team and on their own. The successful candidate will be a forward-thinking individual whose attitude and approach to work is as important as their previous experience. We are inviting applications from candidates with 0-3 years PQE.
Attention to detail, organisation and time management skills are key elements to this role, as is the ability to work under pressure to meet litigation deadlines. Excellent client care skills are also a must.
