We are seeking an inspiring English professional to deliver GCSE and Functional Skills English at our Bexhill campus. We welcome applications from excellent classroom practitioners, as well as experienced candidates who can provide strategic and operational leadership of the English curriculum across our provision.
The substantive appointment and salary will reflect the successful candidate’s experience and the level of responsibility agreed. Candidates interested in the Curriculum Lead element should demonstrate experience of curriculum planning, quality assurance and improving learner outcomes.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Plan and deliver engaging GCSE and Functional Skills English teaching to learners aged 16–19.
- Assess learners accurately, monitor progress and provide timely, constructive feedback.
- Use initial and diagnostic assessment information to plan differentiated learning.
- Support learners to improve attendance, confidence, achievement and progression.
- Maintain accurate records in accordance with awarding-body, funding and organisational requirements.
- Contribute to curriculum planning, standardisation, moderation and quality-improvement activity.
- Work collaboratively with vocational tutors, learning support colleagues and managers to embed English across study programmes.
- Support enrolment, induction, open days, results activity and other college events as required.
Additional Curriculum Lead Responsibilities
- Lead the design, planning and continuous improvement of the English curriculum across relevant LLC/DV8 provision.
- Coordinate schemes of work, resources, assessment planning and standardisation arrangements.
- Monitor attendance, progress, achievement and value-added data, implementing timely improvement actions.
- Support, coach and quality assure English teaching practice, including learning walks and developmental observations where required.
- Ensure compliance with awarding-body requirements and readiness for internal and external quality review.
- Contribute subject expertise to self-assessment, quality-improvement planning and preparation for Ofsted inspection.
What We’re Looking For
- Strong subject knowledge and successful experience delivering GCSE and/or Functional Skills English.
- A relevant English qualification at Level 3 or above; a degree or equivalent subject expertise is desirable.
- A recognised teaching qualification, or a clear commitment to achieving one within an agreed timeframe.
- Experience supporting post-16 learners, including those who may have experienced barriers to education.
- Confident use of assessment information, learner data and digital learning resources.
- Excellent communication, organisation and relationship-building skills.
- For Curriculum Lead consideration: demonstrable experience of curriculum leadership, quality assurance, staff development or driving improvements in learner outcomes.
