Junior Editor, Oracle Time
Oracle Time is the UK's leading watch and luxury lifestyle publisher. We produce ten print issues a year alongside oracleoftime.com, a fast-growing social and video output, and live events including our flagship Hands On Horology exhibition. We are a small creative team based in Battlesbridge, Essex, and we are hiring a full-time Junior Editor.
This is a hands-on editorial role at the centre of everything we publish. You will have a byline in print and online from your first issue, and full training inside a working magazine.
What you will be doing
- Writing hands-on watch reviews, news, new release coverage, features, interviews and brand profiles
- Adapting content across platforms: a print feature becomes an online article, a review becomes a short video
- Helping plan and produce social content, presenting on camera for Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, and recording voice overs
- Supporting photoshoot planning and feeding into magazine layouts
- Attending product launches, press days and industry events as a representative of the brand
- Supporting commercial and advertiser content alongside the editorial team
- Working to print production deadlines across a ten-issue schedule
- Helping across our reader events and flagship Hands On Horology exhibition
What we are looking for
- Genuine knowledge of and enthusiasm for watches, in whatever form it comes
- Strong writing with a natural sense of narrative
- Comfortable on camera and with voice overs, or willing to become comfortable
- Organised enough to hit print deadlines
- Able to work from our Battlesbridge office three days a week (Tuesday to Thursday), a short drive from Wickford and Chelmsford, and around 45 minutes from London Liverpool Street
- No journalism degree, media experience or previous bylines required
Not a watch obsessive yet? If storytelling is your thing, watches are one of the richest subjects going: design history, engineering, mechanics, and the people and communities behind them. We would rather teach a watch obsessive how publishing works than the other way round.
What we offer
- £26,000 to £30,000 per year, depending on experience
- Hybrid working: three days in the office, two from home
- 28 days holiday including bank holidays, plus a paid Christmas shutdown
- Company pension
- A byline in print and online from your first issue
- Training and mentoring inside a working magazine
- Industry access from day one: launches, press days and events
- Discounts with partner watch brands
