We are currently looking for compassionate, patient and resilient Support Workers to join a dedicated team supporting a young man with Childhood Disintegrative Disorder, complex learning disabilities and communication needs.
A friendly young man who enjoys:
- Going for walks and spending time outdoors
- Music and sensory activities
- Swimming and rebound therapy
- Visiting cafés
- The Simpsons
- Sensory rooms, sensory gardens and sensory lighting
- Wheelchair trampoline, swings and roundabouts
- Balls and spinning toys
- iPad activities
- Scouts, sport, board games and cinema experiences
J. communicates using a SMARTBOX GRID communication system on his iPad alongside visual prompts, objects of reference, shared attention and eye contact. He thrives with staff who take time to listen, build trust and support him at his own pace.
The Role
You will support J. with all aspects of daily living, including:
- Personal care and maintaining dignity at all times
- Supporting communication through AAC technology and visual aids
- Supporting community activities and hobbies
- Promoting independence and choice making
- Meal preparation and support with eating and drinking
- Supporting with mobility, transfers and moving and handling procedures
- Following Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) strategies
- Supporting emotional wellbeing
- Maintaining accurate records and reports
- Helping create a safe, structured and supportive environment
Experience We Are Looking For
- Learning disabilities
- Autism and complex communication needs
- Positive Behaviour Support (PBS)
- Behaviours of distress that may challenge services
- Pica and associated risk management
- Personal care and moving and handling
- AAC communication systems
- Complex health and support needs
Most importantly, you will be:
- Calm and patient
- Positive and encouraging

- Able to follow support plans and risk assessments
- Passionate about promoting independence
- Committed to treating people with dignity and respect
Important Information:
- Requires support with all aspects of personal care
- Has limited awareness of danger and requires close supervision
- Can experience anxiety around transitions and changes
- Benefits from structured routines and clear communication
- May display behaviours of concern linked to communication difficulties, discomfort, sensory needs or anxiety
- Requires staff who can follow Positive Behaviour Support plans consistently
