Role Purpose:
This role is extremely rewarding in making a difference to people’s lives. The role of the Specialist Stop Smoking Advisor is to support the delivery of evidenced based, equitable stop smoking services to help to reduce the inequalities throughout the contracted localities. This will include the delivery of services within areas of most deprivation. It is essential that the postholder can work flexibly, independently and as part of a team.
Training will be given to ensure staff / applicants are equipped to deliver effective services.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
As a Stop Smoking Advisor, you will support and empower individuals to make positive lifestyle changes by delivering high-quality, evidence-based smoking cessation interventions across a variety of community settings. You will provide personalised one-to-one, group, telephone and online support in line with the NCSCT Standard Treatment Programme, helping clients set realistic, sustainable goals while offering ongoing motivation and relapse prevention. Working collaboratively with healthcare professionals and community partners, you will promote smoking cessation as part of routine care, helping to reduce health inequalities and improve long-term health outcomes. You will use local health and service data to inform delivery, maintain accurate and confidential client records, facilitate peer support sessions, and provide education on nicotine addiction, behavioural change and healthier lifestyles. This is a rewarding and fast-paced role where you will use your initiative to effectively manage competing priorities, contribute to the continued development of the service, and ensure the delivery of a high-quality, person-centred service in line with organisational policies and objectives.
Skills and Competencies Required
- Be an experienced Specialist Stop Smoking Practitioner within the community. (Training will be given)
- Experience of working with evolving and developing services
- Positive and proactive outlook with the ability to motivate, engage and support others to achieve the highest standards and outcomes.
- Adept in communication; A strong communicator who adapts the message to fit the needs of the audience including clients, staff, and volunteers at all levels.
- Build strong relationships, foster trust and co-operation among colleagues, stakeholders throughout community settings.
- Quality driven; you naturally seek high standards and actively seek to improve them.
- Value and remain open to new ideas and perspectives.
