Opulence Stoves is looking for an experienced Gas Safe registered engineer to join our growing installation team, working from Bury St Edmunds across East Anglia.
This isn't a conventional boiler-engineer position. We specialise in premium fireplaces, stoves and heating installations and are looking for someone who wants to apply their gas expertise within a much broader and varied installation environment.
We currently install built-in gas fires and gas stoves alongside our wood-burning work and use third-party engineers for elements of our gas commissioning. We now want to bring more of this capability in-house.
The role
Depending on your existing skills and Gas Safe competencies, your work may include:
- Gas fire and gas stove installation, disconnection and removal
- Commissioning, testing, certification and customer handover
- Built-in gas and wood-burning stove installations
- Twin-wall flue systems, including internal and external installations
- Fireplace preparation, alterations and associated building work
- Hearths, chambers, beams and stone surrounds
- Working alongside our lead engineer on more complex installations
- Opportunities to develop into solid fuel and air-conditioning work
The wider installation programme includes twin-wall systems, built-in stoves, fireplace/building work and air-conditioning support, so this is particularly suited to someone who enjoys practical, varied work rather than doing the same type of gas job every day.
What we're looking for
You must hold current Gas Safe registration and the relevant appliance competencies for any regulated gas work you undertake.
We're particularly interested in applicants with experience in gas fires, gas stoves, built-in appliances, plumbing/heating or domestic gas appliances.

Salary & benefits
Employed: £40,000–£47,000 per year, depending on capability and the level of regulated gas work you can independently undertake and certify.
- £40,000–£43,000 – Gas Safe registered, working primarily within our wider installation team
- £43,000–£47,000 – able to independently undertake and certify a meaningful volume of regulated gas work
- 28 days' paid holiday including bank holidays

- Six-month probation with structured competency reviews
A genuine self-employed subcontract arrangement may also be considered at £220–£260 per day, depending on capability, independence and the nature of the work.
Progression
This role has genuine scope to develop beyond gas work.
For the right person, progression can move from working alongside our lead engineer, through independent gas installation and certification, toward a broader multi-discipline heating engineer role, including potential solid-fuel and F-Gas/air-conditioning cross-training.
Pay: £40,000.00-£47,000.00 per year
