Job Overview
As a Vehicle Delivery Planner, you will be responsible for the tactical planning and real-time coordination of our delivery fleet. Your primary objective is to optimise daily delivery routes, maximize vehicle and driver utilisation, and ensure a high level of customer service while maintaining strict compliance with all transport regulations.
We are seeking a dynamic and highly organised Vehicle Transport Planner to coordinate the efficient movement of vehicles across various locations. This role is vital in ensuring seamless logistics operations.
Key Responsibilities
Route Planning & Optimisation
- Create efficient and cost-effective daily delivery schedules using transport management software and geographical knowledge according to customer demands
- Plan routes in full compliance with legal requirements, including drivers' hours, the Working Time Directive, and vehicle weight limits
Driver & Fleet Coordination
- Brief drivers with clear route plans, manage driver workloads and effectively communicate with them throughout the day
- Monitor vehicle movements in real-time and react swiftly to operational changes, such as breakdowns, traffic jams, or urgent customer requests by re-routing vehicles as needed
Communication & Customer Service
- Act as the primary point of contact for drivers and customers
- Communicate with customers to confirm delivery dates, access requirements, and unloading arrangements, ensuring a smooth delivery experience
Compliance & Administration
- Maintain accurate transport records
- Develop and manage comprehensive vehicle transport schedules to meet delivery deadlines and optimise routes
Requirements
- Proven experience in management, logistics, or supply chain roles with a focus on vehicle transportation or fleet management
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and experience in IT applications related to logistics management (Movex, Autotrader)
- Excellent communication skills in English for clear interaction with team members and clients
- Good geographical knowledge of the UK road network and postcodes
- Desirable but not essential - Full UK Driving License
