The Welding Supervisor is responsible for the safe, efficient and effective day-to-day management of a welding shift within the fabrication workshop. The role involves leading a team of welders and fabricators, coordinating production activities, and ensuring all work is completed safely, to the required quality standards and in line with production schedules.

Oversee the day-to-day operation of the welding and fabrication team, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently and to the required quality standards.

Allocate work to welders and fabricators based on production priorities, competency and project requirements.

Monitor production progress throughout the shift, making adjustments where required to meet production schedules.

Ensure all fabrication and welding activities are carried out in accordance with approved drawings, welding procedures (WPS), quality standards and customer specifications.

Ensure all operatives accurately use the Steel Projects PLM system to record production progress and maintain traceability.

Lead, motivate and develop a team of welders and fabricators to achieve production and quality objectives.

Conduct regular performance reviews, provide coaching and identify training and development needs.

Promote a positive working environment built on teamwork, accountability and continuous improvement.

Manage attendance, overtime and holiday requests in conjunction with other supervisors to ensure appropriate staffing levels.

Ensure all fabricated and welded components meet customer specifications, engineering drawings and applicable industry standards.

Verify that welds are completed in accordance with approved Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS).

Ensure visual inspections and dimensional checks are completed throughout the fabrication process.

Raise, investigate and support the resolution of non-conformance reports (NCRs).

Ensure Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) are completed accurately and all traceability requirements are maintained within Steel Projects PLM.

Work closely with the Quality team to resolve defects and implement corrective actions.

Promote a strong health and safety culture throughout the workshop.

Ensure compliance with all company health, safety and environmental procedures and relevant legislation.

Carry out regular safety inspections, toolbox talks and risk assessment reviews.

Ensure appropriate PPE is worn and safe systems of work are followed at all times.

Report and investigate accidents, incidents and near misses, implementing corrective actions where required.

Ensure all lifting operations, welding activities and workshop practices are completed safely.

Work closely with the Manufacturing Manager and other departmental supervisors to deliver production plans.

Monitor shift performance against production targets and take appropriate action to minimise delays.
-
Prioritise work to maximise productivity while maintaining quality standards.

Support production planning activities and respond effectively to changing customer and operational requirements.

Ensure welding equipment, tools and associated plant are maintained in a safe and serviceable condition.

Report equipment faults promptly using the Mango maintenance system.

Coordinate with the Maintenance team to minimise downtime and ensure equipment availability.

Promote good housekeeping and ensure work areas remain organised and compliant with 5S principles.

Maintain effective communication with the Manufacturing Manager, Quality, Planning and other production departments.

Attend daily production meetings and communicate priorities clearly to the team.

Complete comprehensive shift handovers to ensure continuity of production and highlight outstanding issues, quality concerns or safety matters.

Maintain accurate production records using Steel Projects PLM.

Complete shift reports detailing production performance, labour utilisation, quality issues and downtime.

Ensure all required production and quality documentation is completed accurately and on time.

Identify opportunities to improve productivity, quality and operational efficiency.

Support Lean Manufacturing initiatives and continuous improvement projects.
-
Encourage employee engagement and the sharing of ideas to improve workshop performance.

Monitor and promote effective use of Steel Projects PLM to support operational excellence.
