Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Cargo Yard Manager / Supervisor to lead and oversee daily operations within our cargo yard environment. This pivotal role involves managing the movement, storage, and security of freight, ensuring seamless coordination between transportation, warehousing, and logistics teams. Duties
- Supervise daily cargo yard activities, including shipping, receiving, staging, and storage operations to ensure timely and accurate processing of freight.
- Oversee the safe operation of equipment such as forklifts and other material handling machinery, ensuring compliance with safety standards.
- Coordinate with transportation management systems (TMS), warehouse management systems (WMS), and enterprise resource planning (ERP) platforms to streamline workflows and inventory accuracy.
- Monitor yard security protocols, control access points, and conduct regular inspections to prevent theft or damage.
- Lead process improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing operational efficiency, reducing costs, and increasing throughput within the yard.
- Manage personnel schedules, supervise team members with supervising experience, and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
- Maintain accurate records of shipments, inventory movements, damages, incidents, and yard audits using systems such as AS400 or equivalent platforms.
- Collaborate with third-party logistics providers (3PL) to coordinate inbound/outbound shipments and optimize supply chain performance.
- Monitor profit & loss metrics related to yard operations to identify opportunities for cost savings and revenue enhancement.
Skills
- Proven experience supervising cargo yard or warehouse operations with strong leadership capabilities.
- Extensive knowledge of transportation management systems (TMS), warehouse management systems (WMS), ERP systems, and AS400 platforms.
- Familiarity with shipping & receiving procedures, freight documentation, and inventory control processes.
- Skilled in process improvement methodologies such as continuous improvement initiatives to optimize workflows.
- Proficiency operating forklifts and other material handling equipment; forklift certification is preferred.
- Strong understanding of logistics principles within supply chain management including 3PL partnerships.
- Excellent organizational skills with an eye for detail in record-keeping and compliance documentation.
- Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities while maintaining safety standards and operational efficiency.
