Domestic Appliance Engineer
Covering South East London, Bromley and Dartford
Salary: £32,000 to £36,000 depending on experience
Hours: Full time, Monday to Friday

Smarter Appliances is an established domestic appliance repair company looking for an experienced engineer to join our team covering South East London, Bromley and Dartford.
If you have worked in the appliance repair industry, you will know there are certain jobs most engineers would rather avoid. At Smarter Appliances, we do not carry out drum changes, bearing changes or refrigeration system repairs.
Our engineers start and finish from home, receive parts directly three times per week and are provided with the van, fuel, tools and equipment needed to do the job.

About the role
You will attend customers’ homes to diagnose and repair domestic appliances from a wide range of manufacturers.
Where the required part is available from your van stock, you will be expected to complete the repair on the first visit. Where parts are required, you will provide an accurate diagnosis and all the information needed for us to arrange the return visit.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Diagnosing faults across a range of domestic appliances
- Completing repairs where parts or van stock allow
- Fitting parts ordered following a previous visit
- Completing clear and accurate job reports while at the property
- Uploading photographs and relevant repair information to our live system
- Keeping your van, tools and stock organised
- Delivering a professional and friendly service
- Working safely and leaving customers’ homes clean and tidy
Appointments are capped at eight per day. Workloads are planned around your allocated area and the travelling time between jobs.
Parts are delivered directly to our engineers three times per week, so you will not need to spend time collecting them from lockers or collection points.
Most of our work is completed on behalf of established clients within customers’ homes and tenanted properties. We do not carry out insurance work.
Training and development
We have our own dedicated Engineering Academy in Wickford, providing practical, hands-on training using real domestic appliances.
The academy is not only for trainee engineers. It gives experienced engineers the opportunity to continue developing their diagnostic skills, improve their knowledge of different appliance systems and receive training on additional manufacturers and premium brands.
As Smarter Appliances continues to grow, we want our engineers to grow with us. Further development can support future progression into senior engineering, technical support, training or leadership roles.
What we are looking for
You must have:
- At least two years of field-based domestic appliance repair experience
- Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills
- Experience repairing domestic appliances in customers’ homes
- A full UK driving licence
- Good communication and customer service skills
- The ability to work independently and manage your daily workload
- A professional and tidy approach to your work
Multi-brand experience is preferred, although we are happy to consider experienced manufacturer engineers who would like to develop their knowledge across additional brands.
