New Opportunity - Yard Shunter
Are you experienced in transport and warehouse operations? With a Class One (C+E) LGV Licence?
Our client is looking for a
Yard Shunter to join their team in Derby. In this role, you will be undertaking yard shunting duties and some supervisory responsibilities when the transport manager finishes their shift. During these hours, you could be supporting with potential vehicle breakdowns, any loading issues or briefing drivers.
This is a full-time role from the hours of 12pm - 10pm, Sunday to Thursday on a permanent late shift. Due to these hours, candidates must be able to reliably commute.
As the new Yard Shunter, you will:
- Coordinate daily transport and loading operations to meet operational requirements.
- Liaise with warehouse teams, drivers, customers, vehicle providers, and other stakeholders to ensure efficient communication and service delivery.
- Manage driver administration, including shift paperwork, driver briefings/debriefings, rota updates, and end-of-shift handovers.
- Monitor and resolve delivery, transport, and vehicle-related issues, including breakdowns, delays, and reactive load planning.
- Arrange agency cover and transport resources as required to maintain operational continuity.
- Maintain accurate system records, data entry, and email communications.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, company policies, legal obligations, and company values.
- Participate in training and development activities and undertake additional reasonable duties as required to support the business.
Requirements for this role:
Essential
- Class 1 (C+E) LGV Licence.
- Previous experience within a transport, logistics, distribution, or fleet environment.
- Experience carrying out yard shunting duties.
- Strong geographical knowledge of Britain.
- Computer literate with the ability to accurately input and manage data.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to coordinate transport operations and resolve operational issues.
- Strong organisational and planning skills.
- Ability to work independently and make decisions in a supervisory capacity.
- Good attention to detail and accuracy.
- Understanding of health and safety requirements within a transport environment.
Desirable
- Previous supervisory or team leader experience.
- Knowledge of driver hours and tachograph regulations.
- Experience using transport management systems (TMS).
- Experience managing vehicle breakdowns, driver issues, and reactive transport planning.
- Experience sourcing agency drivers or transport cover.
