Summary
Hawkins Paul & Co is a newly-founded and rapidly growing accountancy firm established in 2024, originally as T&B Accounting. The firm is co-owned by Tim and Ben who are looking for a pro-active and dynamic candidate to join the team and grow with the company.
The candidate will be responsible for working across the firm's portfolio of clients to support the client managers, made up of a broad range of small-medium sized businesses, and individuals. The candidate will work closely with the client managers and the founders, with opportunity for direct client contact available.
The ideal candidate will be highly intelligent with strong understanding of accountancy and tax for small-medium sized businesses, with a keen attention to detail and willingness to learn.
At least two years of practice experience is required, with at least AAT level 3 having been achieved.
The role is suited to UK based candidates currently working in practice at an accountancy firm with at least two years of relevant experience. This role is not suitable for individuals that have not worked in an accountancy practice within the last two years. Any applications from individuals without this relevant experience will be rejected.
The role is designed to enable the candidate to grow with the practice, with the potential to manage your own portfolio of clients in the longer term. Please note that only candidates physically based in the UK with the right to work will be considered.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the client managers in managing a portfolio of clients to meet compliance requirements.
- Direct communication with clients to assist with basic queries and information requests.
- Preparation of annual accounts and corporation tax returns
- Preparation of VAT returns
- Adhoc bookkeeping (predominantly via reviewing of work completed by others, and working through non-standard transactions)
- Reporting key information to Senior Management
- Preparation and submission of confirmation statements and other company secretarial work
- Assist with ad hoc tax and financial reporting projects as and when required
Essential Attributes
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
- Two years working in a UK accounting firm (not in industry for one business)
- Ability to adapt and respond to changing priorities and work proactively
- Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills to get ahead of deadlines
- Prior experience of using Xero and TaxCalc is preferred but not essential
- Ability to work remotely
- Commitment to producing high quality work
- Knowledge of compliance requirements for small businesses
- Some base tax knowledge for small and medium sized businesses is preferred but not essential

Pay: £29,000.00-£32,000.00 per year
