The Shop Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management and growth of a North London Hospice charity shop. The role focuses on maximising donations, driving sales, and creating a welcoming environment for customers, staff, and volunteers. The Shop Manager leads a small team, including an Assistant Manager and a vital group of volunteers, ensuring that the shop meets its financial and operational targets in support of the hospice’s mission.
Key Responsibilities
Drive Shop Performance

Manage the day-to-day running of the shop.

Achieve sales, profit and Gift Aid targets.

Use stock, sales and customer insights to maximise performance.

Deliver excellent customer service and a welcoming shop environment.
Lead and Develop Volunteers

Recruit, train and support a team of volunteers.

Create a positive, inclusive and engaging team culture.

Ensure volunteers have the skills and confidence to succeed.
Maximise Donations and Stock

Build relationships within the local community to encourage donations.

Oversee the processing, pricing and display of donated stock.

Maintain effective stock rotation and minimise waste.

Maximise Gift Aid opportunities.
Visual Merchandising and Promotions

Create attractive shop and window displays.

Ensure stock is well-presented and competitively priced.

Plan and deliver local promotions and fundraising initiatives to increase footfall and sales.
Community Engagement

Build relationships with local businesses, schools and community groups.

Represent North London Hospice within the local community.

Support hospice campaigns, events and fundraising activities.
Leadership, Finance and Compliance

Lead and develop the Assistant Manager and volunteer team.

Manage budgets, cash handling, banking and stock controls.

Monitor performance and report to the Area Manager.

Ensure compliance with Health & Safety, safeguarding, data protection and hospice policies.
