Burscough Family Practice is a busy, friendly, and forward‑thinking NHS GP surgery at the heart of our local community. Our reception team plays a vital role in ensuring patients receive safe, efficient, and compassionate care from the moment they contact us.
As demand on NHS primary care continues to grow, we’re looking for an experienced Medical Receptionist who can bring professionalism, resilience, and empathy to this essential frontline role.
As an NHS Medical Receptionist, no two days are ever the same. You will be the first point of contact for patients needing help, reassurance, or urgent support.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Welcoming and assisting patients both face‑to‑face, over the phone or using our online triage system
- Managing high call volumes and appointment requests with calm efficiency
- Handling sensitive, sometimes emotionally charged conversations
- Providing clear guidance on practice processes and NHS pathways
- Processing prescription requests and managing administrative tasks
- Supporting clinicians and maintaining smooth day‑to‑day operation
- Ensuring confidentiality, accuracy, and excellent record‑keeping
Skills
Essential:
- Previous experience as a Medical Receptionist (ideally in an NHS setting)
- Excellent communication skills and a caring, patient‑focused approach
- Ability to remain calm, professional, and solution‑focused under pressure
- Strong organisation and IT skills
- Commitment to confidentiality and NHS values
- A team player with a positive, proactive attitude
Desirable:
- Familiarity with EMIS Web or similar clinical systems
- Experience supporting patients with diverse needs
