About the Role
Westley Engineering is seeking an experienced and commercially-minded Financial Controller to lead the finance function of our engineering business.
Reporting directly to the Group Finance Director, this is a hands-on role offering broad responsibility across management accounting, financial control, payroll, forecasting, compliance and operational finance. We are looking for someone who enjoys being part of a growing SME environment, can work independently and is equally comfortable producing management accounts as they are improving processes and supporting operational teams.

Key Responsibilities
- Preparation of monthly management accounts, including commentary and variance analysis
- Ownership of budgeting, forecasting and cash flow management
- Balance sheet reconciliations and financial controls
- Oversight of sales and purchase ledger activities
- Management of working capital, customer receipts and supplier payments
- Preparation and submission of VAT returns
- Weekly and monthly payroll processing
- Coordination of year-end activities and liaison with external accountants
- Ensuring compliance with VAT, PAYE and Corporation Tax requirements
- Providing commercial insight and support to operational managers
- Identifying opportunities to improve systems, controls and reporting processes
- Working closely with the Operations Manager to support stock control, stocktakes and inventory accuracy
- Supporting and developing junior finance colleagues where required
- Ad hoc financial analysis and business support
About You
- To be successful in this role, you will be:
- ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified
- Experienced within an SME environment
- Strong technically with excellent management accounting skills
- Commercially aware and able to translate financial information into meaningful business insight
- Comfortable working in a hands-on role across both transactional and management accounting activities
- Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Confident communicating with colleagues across all areas of the business
- Advanced in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables and lookup functions
Desirable
- Manufacturing or engineering sector experience
- Experience with stock control and inventory accounting
- Experience improving finance systems and processes

Working Hours
Monday to Thursday: 7:00am - 4:00pm
Friday: 7:00am - 12:00pm
Pay: £50,000.00-£65,000.00 per year
