Elmer’s Garden Café is in one of Cardiff’s busiest areas. Popular with students, trades, families and visitors to the city, we are proud to offer good quality meals at affordable prices. Our Pot Washers are important in keeping the café running by making sure that clean crockery and cutlery is available to customers as required, and that clean kitchenware is available for the Short Order Cook.
The General Assistant needs to set up the wash area for the day ahead, in line with formal hygiene standards and our own policies and procedures. They will reset the wash area at the end of the day, completing necessary cleaning and restocking duties. They will make sure that the toilet area is clean at all times, and so is the garden. They will run meals and clear tables. It is important that the Pot Wash manages the café recycling according to Elmer processes. The Pot Wash will be required to cover Front of House duties from time to time.
What you’ll do
- Safely stack dirty items that are waiting to be cleaned
- Wash and dry items, as necessary for the smooth running of the café
- Gather, clean and return to its storage space all dirty crockery, cutlery and kitchenware
- Maintain a clean, sanitary environment within the wash area
- Speak to customers and staff in a friendly and welcoming manner
- Complete daily and weekly inventory of all cleaning items, storing and using chemicals safely
- Follow all service standards and operating procedures, at all times
- Cover Front of House when necessary – taking orders, preparing drinks and accurately taking payments
- Inform the Café Manager of items that need to be restocked, before they run out
- Provide the Café Manager with feedback, ideas and suggestions for improvement
- Assist in training other staff, where required
- Help to clean and reset the café at the end of the day, ready for the next day
- Any other duties, as directed by the Café Manager
