Ysgol Bryn Derw is seeking to appoint two inspirational HLTA/Level 4 Teaching Assistants for a unique opportunity to contribute to whole school and class-based initiatives in a growing school that received Excellent ratings in 4 out of 5 Estyn Inspection Areas in March 2020.
Ysgol Bryn Derw, across 3 sites, supports the provision of education for 136 children from September 2027 aged 3 years to 19 years who have been diagnosed with ASD, and may also present with additional complex needs such as severe learning difficulties or highly challenging behaviour, and require a specialised environment.
The school aims to provide the highest possible standards of education and support for all its pupils regardless of their level of educational need, and is equipped with a range of specialised facilities including a Rebound Therapy room, sensory rooms, soft play rooms, Independent Living Skills rooms, sensory gardens, allotment areas and regulation spaces.
The Governing Body is looking to appoint two HLTA/Level 4 TAs for different roles.
Role 1-
To work in a class running group learning in collaboration with the class teacher and provide PPA cover where required. You will have experience, as a Level 3 or 4 Teaching Assistant, working with pupils with ASD and severe learning difficulties and knowledge of strategies to support communication and regulation for people with ASD and of supporting challenging behaviour. You will also be expected to lead the learning and management of classes in the teacher’s absence possibly across all age ranges (3-19) and sites.
Role 2-
Under the guidance of the Deputy Head to be the operational sensory regulation lead across the school. You will have some experience and knowledge of sensory systems and sensory regulation and are confident in working with some of the most complex learners to effectively support their regulation needs. You will support class teachers as part of the universal, targeted and specialist sensory regulation offer for all pupils across all age ranges and across all sites. The role will require the implementing and guiding effective sensory circuits and sensory profiles and upskilling staff on sensory approaches. Part of this role will involve responding to dysregulation and working closely with the emotional regulation team and Pupil Success Group. At times, class cover may be required.
All staff at Ysgol Bryn Derw receive a significant CPD offer, recent training has included Team Teach, Intensive Interaction, Attention Autism and PECS. You will be someone who is passionate and highly motivated to achieve the best outcomes for the young people at the school and have the vision to create an outstanding educational environment.
Candidates will be expected to:
Complement the professional work of teachers by taking responsibility for agreed learning activities under an agreed system of supervision. This may involve planning, preparing and delivering learning activities for groups or short term whole classes, and monitoring pupils progress and assessing, recording and reporting on pupils’ achievement, progress and development.
Be responsible for the management and development of a specialist area within the school and/or assist in the management of other teaching assistants, including monitoring of work, appraisal and training.
The posts are for 37 hours per week, 39 weeks per year (term-time). Applicants who wish to work Monday & Tuesday or Monday to Wednesday only will be considered.
