Columbia Wil El Mil is part of Columbia Machine, a global manufacturer of industrial machinery, production equipment and associated products for the concrete manufacturing sector. Based at our Gloucester facility, we manufacture, refurbish and support specialist machinery, molds, spare parts and ancillary equipment for customers across the UK and overseas.
We are looking for a practical and reliable Stores, Warehouse & Yard Operative to take responsibility for the safe, accurate and efficient movement of materials throughout our site.
The role: This is a varied, hands-on position covering stores, warehousing, yard operations and internal logistics. You will manage materials from receipt through storage, production and final dispatch, while ensuring that all stock movements are recorded accurately in our ERP/MRP system. The role is central to keeping production supplied, maintaining accurate stock records and ensuring finished goods and customer orders are dispatched correctly and on time.
Key responsibilities
- Receive, unload and check incoming goods against purchase orders and delivery documentation.
- Record all receipts, issues, returns and stock movements accurately in the company ERP/MRP system.
- Allocate warehouse and bin locations and ensure materials are labelled, stored and protected correctly.
- Pick, kit and deliver materials to production against approved work orders and manufacturing schedules.
- Manage the movement of raw materials, bought-in components, work in progress and finished goods around the site.
- Pick, pack and prepare spare parts, machinery components and other customer orders for dispatch.
- Coordinate collections and deliveries with couriers, hauliers, suppliers and internal teams.
- Maintain appropriate stock levels and identify shortages, slow-moving stock and replenishment requirements.
- Support stock ordering by raising purchase requests and monitoring agreed minimum and maximum stock levels.
- Carry out regular cycle counts and support full physical stocktakes.
- Investigate stock discrepancies and help maintain accurate system and physical inventory records.
- Maintain traceability and separation of customer-owned, Columbia-owned and WEM-owned materials where required.
- Support the Operations Manager with work-orders, stock, WIP and material-availability reporting.
- Operate forklifts and other material-handling equipment where trained and authorised.
- Complete routine checks on handling and storage equipment and report defects promptly.
- Maintain clean, organised and safe stores, warehouse and yard areas.
- Ensure all activities comply with company health and safety policies & procedures.
About you:
You will be practical and dependable while being comfortable combining physical work with basic computer and stock-control tasks.
You should have:
- A reliable and organised approach to work.
- Good attention to detail and basic numeracy.
- Confidence using computers, or the willingness to learn an ERP/MRP stock-management system.
- The ability to work independently and prioritise day-to-day material requirements.
- A willingness to undertake manual handling and work across warehouse, workshop and yard environments.
- A strong awareness of safe working practices.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work with production, engineering, finance and purchasing colleagues.
Desirable experience:
The following would be useful but is not essential:
- Previous warehouse, stores, stock-control or yard experience.
- Experience within an engineering or manufacturing environment.
- Counterbalance forklift experience or a current forklift licence.
- Experience receiving and dispatching goods.
- Familiarity with ERP, MRP or warehouse-management systems.
- Experience with stocktaking, work orders or production material kitting.
Full training will be provided on our systems, products and internal processes. Forklift training may also be provided for the right candidate.
