CARE ASSISTANT

Truscott Manor is a 39 bed nursing home in East Grinstead. Set in a traditional manor house, within acres of beautiful gardens, the home has a warm and friendly atmosphere, with a sense of family between the staff. Benefitting from an exceptional reputation within the area, we cater for elderly and frail residents with a varied dependency.
We require a Care Assistant to provide care to vulnerable elderly residents that would have previously been given by members of the resident's own family. This position involves shift work.
The Role:
- Washing, dressing, and toileting residents.
- Preparing residents for bed.
- Feeding residents, if necessary, and serving meals.
- Changing beds and tidying bedrooms.
- Sharing activities to encourage residents to remain as independent as possible.
- Help residents with problems of mobility and other physical disabilities (e.g. incontinence), helping with the use of disability aids and caring for the same, where appropriate.
- To answer promptly all nurse alarm calls, assessing each situation and dealing with any resident who is seeking help and in cases of emergency to summon duty Nurse in Charge.
- To assist residents who need help or reassurance, providing light drinks or refreshments where required.
- To carry out regular checks on the building, with particular reference to fire prevention and external security (all windows and external doors secured etc).
- To help maintain a safe and healthy environment in the Home with due regard to appropriate Food Hygiene and Health & Safety Regulations and to report all accidents to the Night Shift Person in Charge.
- To participate in staff meetings.
- To participate in training activities or course, as directed by senior staff, particularly four fire lectures per year.
- To assist with End-of-Life Care for residents who are terminally ill.
- To undertake other duties, as necessary.
The position will not include tasks that would normally be undertaken by a nurse or senior carer.
