Salary: £35,000–£42,000 per year depending on experience and ability
Higher salary considered for the right person with strong diagnostic, clutch, cambelt/wet belt or electrical fault-finding experience
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am–5:00pm
Break: 30-minute unpaid lunch break
Contracted hours: 40 paid hours per week
Weekends: No regular weekends

MPG Garage Services is a small, friendly, independent garage based in Gosport.

We are looking for someone experienced who can help us keep that standard.
The role
This is not an entry-level role. We are looking for an experienced Vehicle Technician / Mechanic with at least 5 years’ proven garage/workshop experience.
The work will include servicing, brakes, suspension, clutches, cambelts/timing belts, diagnostics, fault finding and general repairs on a variety of everyday cars and light vans.
We need someone who can do more than basic servicing. You should be able to think through faults, work independently, communicate clearly with the team, and carry out jobs to a standard that protects our reputation.
We are an independent garage where the work still needs to be done correctly, but the atmosphere is realistic, personal and team-focused. We want someone who takes pride in their work and fits well into a small team where customers and reputation genuinely matter.
What you’ll be doing
- Servicing and general maintenance
- Brakes, suspension and steering repairs
- Clutches and general mechanical repairs
- Cambelts / timing belts
- Diagnostics and fault finding
- Basic electrical diagnostics
- Vehicle inspections and checks
- Working through faults logically rather than guessing
- Updating the office/workshop team clearly on job progress
- Noting extra work found before anything is agreed with the customer
- Occasional liaising with customers directly to explain work, faults or vehicle concerns in a clear and approachable way
- Helping maintain the honest, friendly customer service MPG is known for
Essential
- Minimum 5 years’ proven garage/workshop experience
- Strong general mechanical knowledge
- Diagnostic ability
- Experience with clutches
- Experience with cambelts / timing belts
- Own tools
- Full UK driving licence
- Ability to work independently and as part of a small team
- Reliable, honest and practical attitude
Desirable but not essential
- Wet belt experience
- Stronger electrical diagnostic experience
- Good understanding of modern vehicle systems
- Air conditioning experience
- Level 2 or Level 3 vehicle qualification
- Experience with light vans
