Depot Manager – Generalist Hire | Borehamwood

We’re looking for an experienced Depot Manager to take full operational responsibility for a busy generalist hire depot based in Borehamwood.
This is a hands on leadership role for someone who knows the tool hire industry, understands how a successful depot operates, and is confident managing people, customers, commercial performance and day to day operations.
You’ll have overall responsibility for a team of around 10 employees, including drivers, yard staff, a Hire Controller and Hire Manager, while taking ownership of the depot’s P&L and operational performance.
The Role
As Depot Manager, you’ll be responsible for everything operational within the depot, including:
- Full responsibility for the depot’s day to day operations and performance
- Managing and developing a team of approximately 10 staff
- Taking ownership of the depot P&L, revenue and profitability
- Leading drivers, yard staff, Hire Controllers and the Hire Manager
- Managing customer relationships and ensuring consistently high service levels
- Overseeing equipment availability, fleet utilisation and hire processes
- Ensuring health & safety, compliance and operational standards are maintained
- Driving efficiency, productivity and commercial performance
- Managing the depot team, setting expectations and creating a strong performance culture
- Resolving operational and customer issues quickly and effectively
- Working closely with the wider business to achieve company objectives
What We’re Looking For
You’ll need to bring proven experience within tool/generalist hire, alongside strong people management and operational leadership experience.
Ideally, you’ll have:
- Previous Depot Manager / Branch Manager / Operations Manager experience within tool or equipment hire
- Strong management and leadership skills
- Proven experience managing a team
- Good commercial awareness and experience with P&L responsibility
- Excellent customer management skills
- A strong understanding of generalist/tool hire operations
- The ability to lead from the front in a busy depot environment
- A practical, solutions focused approach
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
Tool hire experience and management experience are essential.
Package
- £50,000+ basic salary, depending on experience
- Company car or car allowance
- 25 days annual leave + bank holidays

Working Hours
Two shift patterns are available:
6:30am – 4:30pm
or
7:30am – 5:30pm
