We are seeking a motivated and practical Building Services Technician (Plumbing & Electrical) to join our team and play a key role in supporting the delivery of high-quality training and instruction for both young people and adults.
This is an exciting opportunity for an individual with industry experience in plumbing and/or electrical installation who enjoys working with people and wants to help learners develop the practical skills and confidence needed to succeed. Working alongside lecturers and support staff, you will contribute to an outstanding learning environment while ensuring workshops, equipment and learning resources are maintained to the highest standards.
About the Role
As a Building Services Technician, you will provide high-quality practical support across the Plumbing and Electrical curriculum areas, assisting with the delivery of learning activities and enrichment opportunities. You will help learners develop their practical skills, prepare and maintain equipment, and support staff in creating engaging and safe learning environments.
This is a varied role that combines technical expertise, learner support, equipment maintenance and health and safety responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities

Support the development of learners' practical plumbing and electrical skills through high-quality technical instruction and guidance.
- Work with lecturers, employers and colleagues to provide outstanding learning opportunities.
- Prepare, maintain and repair plumbing and electrical equipment, tools, training rigs and workshop resources used for teaching and learning activities.
- Assist in the setup of practical lessons, demonstrations and assessments.
- Maintain accurate inventories, stock control systems and ordering processes for tools, materials and consumables.
- Ensure workshops and learning environments remain safe, clean, secure and well-organised.
- Undertake routine equipment checks and support compliance with health and safety requirements.
- Carry out and review risk assessments and maintain COSHH records.
- Support enrichment activities, open events, competitions and employer engagement activities.
- Provide practical assistance to students and staff across the Plumbing and Electrical departments.
- Assist with the installation, testing, maintenance and fault-finding of training systems and equipment used within workshop environments.
About You
You will be a practical, organised and enthusiastic individual with relevant industry experience and a genuine commitment to supporting learners. You will have a strong understanding of plumbing and/or electrical installation practices and enjoy working in a hands-on educational environment.
Essential Requirements

Level 2 qualification (or equivalent) in Plumbing, Electrical Installation, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Practical industry experience in plumbing, electrical installation, or both trades.
- Knowledge of current industry standards, regulations and safe working practices.
- Ability to operate, maintain and demonstrate relevant workshop equipment safely and effectively.
- Excellent communication, IT and organisational skills.
- Level 2 English and Maths (or equivalent).
- Ability to work independently, use initiative and operate effectively as part of a team.
Desirable

Experience working with young people aged 14–19.
- Health and Safety qualification or willingness to work towards one.
- Experience maintaining training rigs, workshop facilities or specialist equipment.
- Willingness to train as a minibus driver.
