Junior Barista / Front of House Assistant
Taith Coffee Lewes
Part-time 21 Hours
Friday-Sunday
Pay: £13 p/h
About Taith
Taith is a speciality coffee bar and roastery in Lewes, alongside books, vinyl and our working riso print and clay studios.
We take coffee seriously, roasting everything ourselves with a focus on very light roasting and showcasing a wide range of origins, varieties and processing methods. Alongside coffee, we have a developing programme of speciality tea, food and events.
We're looking for a Junior Barista / Front of House Assistant to join our team.
The Role
This is a junior, training-focused position for someone who is interested in developing their knowledge of speciality coffee and hospitality.
You don't need to arrive as an experienced barista. We're more interested in finding someone who is curious about coffee, enjoys working with people and is confident in a busy hospitality environment.
Initially, a significant part of the role will involve supporting the wider team through pot washing, running drinks, clearing tables, maintaining the space and helping front of house. These are important parts of how the bar operates and the customer experience we want to provide.
Alongside this, you'll receive training and gradually develop across different areas of the bar, including coffee preparation, brewing, service and product knowledge.
What You'll Be Doing
- Running drinks and supporting bar service
- Pot washing and maintaining an organised wash-up area
- Clearing, cleaning and resetting customer areas
- Welcoming customers and helping them navigate our coffee and drinks offering
- Talking confidently and naturally with customers
- Keeping the bar and wider space clean, organised and well presented
- Supporting the team during busy periods
- Learning about our coffees, teas and other products
- Undertaking structured barista and brewing training as you develop
- Contributing to a positive and supportive working environment
About You
We're looking for someone who is friendly, confident, hardworking and interested in learning.
You should enjoy talking to people and be comfortable communicating with a wide range of customers. The bar can become very busy, so you'll need to be able to work with energy and focus while remaining calm and helpful.
An existing interest in speciality coffee is important, but extensive barista experience isn't required. This is a role for someone who genuinely wants to learn and develop rather than someone who already knows everything.
You should be:
- Interested in speciality coffee and hospitality
- Confident and comfortable talking to customers
- Comfortable working at pace in a busy environment
- Happy to take on practical tasks including pot washing, cleaning and running
- Reliable, punctual and organised
- Able to notice what needs doing and get involved
- Open to feedback and enthusiastic about developing new skills
- Comfortable working as part of a close team
Previous hospitality experience is useful but not essential. A positive attitude, good communication skills and a genuine willingness to learn are more important.
Training & Development
We want this to be a genuine development role.
You'll have the opportunity to learn about speciality coffee from a working roastery and develop practical skills across espresso, pour-over, sensory evaluation and customer service as you progress.
There is plenty to learn, but progression will come alongside demonstrating strong fundamentals: reliability, cleanliness, organisation, communication and the ability to support the team during busy service.
To Apply
Please send us your CV along with a short introduction telling us a little about yourself, why you're interested in speciality coffee and why you'd like to work at Taith.
Pay: £13.00-£14.00 per hour
Work Location: In person
