The Role
As an SEN Teacher, you will:
- Plan, deliver and assess engaging, differentiated lessons tailored to pupils’ individual needs (including those with autism spectrum disorder and complex learning needs).
- Use EHCP targets and individual learning plans to guide your teaching and measure progress.
- Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, therapists, and families to ensure holistic support.
- Create a positive and safe classroom environment that promotes communication, independence and confidence.
- Contribute to the wider life of the school and uphold safeguarding and inclusion policies.
Person Specification
Essential:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Experience teaching pupils with special educational needs (SEND), particularly autism or complex learning needs.
- Ability to plan and adapt lessons to meet individual learning goals.
- A calm, patient and flexible approach to supporting pupils with a wide range of needs.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
Desirable:
- Experience teaching across a wide age range (2–19 years).
- Knowledge of specialist communication systems (e.g. PECS, Makaton) or sensory approaches to learning.
- Experience using assessment tools for SEND learners.
