About The Really NEET Project
The Really NEET Project supports young people aged 16-24 who may not have had a positive experience of mainstream education.
Our approach is built around understanding the individual first. We know that progress looks different for every learner, so we create supportive environments where young people can develop confidence, independence and the practical skills they need for adulthood, further learning and employment.
We’re looking for a Life Skills & Employability Tutor to join our team in Telford and work directly with small groups of young people.
What does the role look like?
This is a varied, hands-on role where flexibility is really important.
You could be delivering a session around communication or employability, helping someone prepare for travelling independently, supporting a practical activity or changing your plans to respond to what a learner needs that day.
You’ll help young people develop skills that can make a real difference to their everyday lives, from confidence and resilience through to independence, workplace behaviours and preparing for their future.
You don’t need to fit into a traditional teaching mould. We’re looking for someone who can connect with young people, make learning engaging and create an environment where learners feel comfortable enough to challenge themselves.
Your role will include
- Planning and delivering engaging life skills, employability and personal development sessions.
- Supporting learners to develop confidence, communication and independence.
- Helping young people prepare for education, training, employment and adult life.
- Adapting sessions and activities around individual needs and learning styles.
- Supporting young people with SEND, EHCPs and a range of barriers to education.
- Building consistent and trusted relationships with learners.
- Encouraging learners to recognise their progress and celebrate achievements.
- Working alongside colleagues to share resources, ideas and approaches.
- Recording and monitoring learner development.
- Supporting practical activities and learner transport when required.
What are we looking for?
We’d love to speak to people who:
- Have experience supporting young people, ideally aged 16–24.
- Understand that building trust can be the starting point for learning.
- Are confident adapting their approach for different needs.
- Can remain calm and positive when situations don’t go to plan.
- Enjoy practical, creative and interactive ways of working.
- Can encourage young people without putting unnecessary pressure on them.
- Want to help learners become more independent and prepared for their future.
- Hold a full UK driving licence.
A teaching qualification would be an advantage, but it isn’t essential.
Your experience, values and ability to engage young people are much more important to us.
Your background could include
We’re open to a range of backgrounds, including:
- Alternative Provision
- SEND Support
- Youth Work
- Employability or Careers Support
- Learning Mentoring
- Behaviour Support
- Personal Development
- Further Education
- Community or Family Support
- Youth Justice
Why join The Really NEET Project?
You’ll become part of a friendly and supportive team that genuinely cares about the young people they work with.
You’ll have the opportunity to see the impact of your work first-hand, whether that’s a learner becoming more confident, developing a new skill, attending consistently or taking an important step towards employment or further education.
You’ll also benefit from:
- A supportive and experienced team.
- Ongoing learning and development.
- A varied working week.
- The opportunity to bring your own ideas and creativity to sessions.
- A role where your relationships with young people can have a lasting impact.
