Due to continued growth, increasing customer demand and the ongoing support of our loyal customers, Retford Auto Centre is looking for an additional Mechanic / MOT Tester to join our team.
We’ve been operating since 2019 and, in 2024, moved into our brand-new, purpose-built workshop, giving us modern equipment, excellent facilities and a great working environment.
We’re looking for someone who takes as much pride in looking after our customers and their vehicles as we do. Technical ability is important, but so are excellent communication skills, reliability, a positive attitude and a genuine commitment to going the extra mile.

Who We’re Looking For
We welcome applications from experienced technicians who have:
- Level 3 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair
- A minimum of 4 years’ garage experience, including relevant training courses
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Good computer and telephone skills
- A willingness to continue learning and developing professionally
- A genuine interest in building a long-term career within a busy, professional workshop
An MOT Tester qualification would be an advantage but is not essential.
If you’re an experienced technician who isn’t currently MOT qualified, you will still be fully considered. We would hope to support the right person in gaining their MOT Tester qualification through training and development with us.
Experience or training in auto electrics and electric/hybrid vehicles would also be beneficial, although this is not essential.

Key Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include:
- Diagnosing faults in engines, transmissions and vehicle systems using diagnostic equipment and technical information
- Carrying out servicing, repairs and routine maintenance to a high standard
- Performing brake, suspension, engine and electrical repairs
- Carrying out routine inspections and preventative maintenance
- Installing and replacing vehicle components as required
- Using diagnostic equipment and technical information to accurately identify faults
- Maintaining accurate records of work completed
- Ensuring all work complies with relevant safety and industry standards
- Providing excellent customer service and explaining repairs clearly when required
Requirements
- Level 3 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair
- Minimum 4 years’ garage experience, including training courses
- Full, clean UK driving licence
- Good communication and customer service skills
- Good computer and telephone skills
- References

MOT Tester qualification is desirable but not essential.
