GARDENER/GROUNDS PERSON (CASUAL)
We're looking for a reliable and enthusiastic Casual Gardener / Grounds Person to join our team here at Uttoxeter Racecourse!
About the role of casual gardener/grounds person...
This is a physically active role where no two days are the same. Working as part of our dedicated grounds team, you'll help maintain the racecourse grounds and outdoor spaces to a high standard throughout the year, ensuring everything looks its best for race days and events. The role involves working outdoors in all weather conditions and includes a variety of gardening and grounds maintenance tasks. You'll work closely with the wider team, attend regular grounds meetings, and play an important part in the smooth running and presentation of the racecourse.
As racing and events often take place outside normal working hours, you'll be expected to work some evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays. If you enjoy practical outdoor work, take pride in creating well-maintained outdoor spaces and are happy working as part of a team as well as using your own initiative, we'd love to hear from you.
What you'll be doing...
- Maintaining lawns, gardens, borders and parade rings to a high standard.
- Helping prepare the racecourse before, during and after race days.
- Mowing, strimming, hedge cutting, weeding and general garden maintenance.
- Keeping all outdoor areas, including car parks and pathways, tidy and free from weeds, leaves and litter.
- Operating a range of gardening equipment, machinery, tractors and vehicles (training provided where appropriate).
- Assisting with the upkeep of buildings, grounds equipment and other outdoor facilities.
- Working closely with the Clerk of the Course and the wider grounds team to ensure the racecourse is always presented at its best.
- Supporting race days, events and other operational activities when required.
- Following health and safety procedures at all times.
What we're looking for...
- Someone who enjoys working outdoors in all weather conditions.
- A hardworking, reliable and positive attitude.
- Able to work well as part of a team but also confident working independently.
- Good time management and organisational skills.
- Flexible and willing to help wherever needed.
- Calm under pressure, especially during busy race days and events.
- Good communication skills.
- A full, clean driving licence is essential.
What is casual work? Casual work is a great solution as it enables you to work flexibly around other commitments in your life. Once you have registered your interest, we will contact you in advance to offer you department based shifts at racedays or hospitality functions. There are usually a range of shifts available and opportunities for work are based on busy seasons and the annual racing calendar. Positions will be allocated on the day as part of the briefing.
