Higher Learning Teaching Assistant – SEN / Autism / Trauma-Informed Support

At ASPIRE: Lifeskills, we provide a bespoke, person-centred educational environment for young people with autism and additional social, emotional and mental health needs. Our approach focuses on developing confidence, independence, life skills and emotional wellbeing through highly personalised learning experiences.
We are looking for a compassionate, resilient and proactive Teaching Assistant to join our growing team.
The Role
You will work closely with students present with:
- Autism (ASC/ASD)
- Trauma and attachment difficulties
- SEMH needs
- Communication and emotional regulation difficulties
The role will involve:
- Supporting students on a 1:1 and small group basis
- Assisting with emotional regulation and positive behaviour support
- Helping deliver engaging, personalised learning opportunities
- Supporting outdoor learning and Forest School activities
- Building positive, trusting relationships with students
- Working collaboratively with teachers, therapists and families
Essential Experience & Skills
We are particularly interested in candidates who have:
- Previous experience working within SEN education
- Experience in leading Forest School, outdoor learning or alternative provision
- Strong understanding of autism and trauma-informed practice
- Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH needs
- Calm, patient and consistent behaviour management skills
- Experience using positive intervention/de-escalation strategies
- The ability to build strong professional relationships with vulnerable young people
Desirable Experience
It would be advantageous if candidates also have:
- Positive Intervention / Team Teach / PRICE or similar training
- Knowledge of therapeutic and relational approaches

Due to the specific needs of some of the young people currently accessing our provision, we welcome applications from individuals who can provide strong role-model relationships and therapeutic support to students who may respond positively to different staff dynamics within the team.
Pay: From £15.00 per hour
