Key accountabilities
Thanet Earth is one of the largest employers in East Kent. During seasonal peaks we can have up to 900 people working on site, whether that’s in one of our six greenhouses, in our packing factory or in our commercial and administration team.
We want to make sure we have the right people in place to support our growth and we are now looking for a bright and enthusiastic Section Leader to join our Dry Goods and Packaging team based at Thanet Earth in Birchington, Kent.
Your main responsibilities will be to support the Dry Goods & Packaging Manager in the management, leadership control and storage of business dry goods and packaging to ensure the delivery of quality, cost and service optimisation to the business.
Other responsibilities include:
- Manage, control, motivate and develop all dry goods staff to ensure they have the knowledge, skills, and behaviours to achieve performance standards and sustain them over time.
- Plan work patterns in conjunction with the Dry Goods & Packaging Manager. Organise daily staff allocation, discuss any additional labour requirements.
- Assist and support the Multi-Skilled Operatives, Dry Goods and Packaging Co-ordinator and management to ensure that the business operates to the maximum effectiveness and efficiency by developing a flexible team approach across all personnel and departments.
- To make clear and decisive decisions when necessary, regarding customer specifications, compliance, and standards to contribute effectively to the overall operation of the factory.
- Ideally a minimum of one year’s experience in a FMCG/fresh produce/warehouse supervisory role.
- Working knowledge of food production/handling procedures and processes.
- Demonstrable leadership, interpersonal, communication and management skills.
- Competent in problem solving, team building and planning.
- A proactive approach to problem solving and continuous improvement.
Key Skills & Knowledge:
- Sound knowledge of business operations preferably gained from within a fresh produce environment.
- Effective leadership, interpersonal, communication and management skills.
- Ability to lead a variety of multi-skilled team members.
- Demonstrate skills in developing, training and motivating people at all levels.
- Competent in problem solving, team building and planning.
- Experience of lean manufacturing concepts and disciplines an advantage.
A day in the life…….
“You start your day reviewing work patterns with the Dry Good and Packaging Manager, organising staff allocation and discussing labour needs. You’ll motivate and develop your team, ensuring they meet performance standards. Throughout the day, you support various departments, make decisions on customer specifications, and conduct stock checks, reconciling them with the ERP system. You’ll assist in driving continuous improvement through training. Effective communication is key, and you’ll brief your teams regularly. You’ll implement best practices, manage operational areas, and ensure compliance with company policies and customer standards, maintaining efficiency and effectiveness.”
Working hours:
You will work Monday to Friday 5:30am-2:30pm.
Due to our remote location and limited public transportation options, candidates must have their own means of transport for daily commuting.
