Warehouse Operative /Driver
Job Description
We have an excellent opportunity for Warehouse Operative/Driver to join our team based in Manchester.

The Role
As a Driver/Warehouse Operative you will report to the Warehouse Manager/Branch General Manager. You will be responsible for the delivery of materials to customers, as well as supporting the warehouse team in picking, cutting and storage of materials.
Your duties will include:
- Regular customer delivery's in a pick up vehicle via a delivery manifest
- To work efficiently and safely in the operation of machinery to lift and load material onto wagons to driver’s manifest provided.
- To store, pick and cut metal stock in the warehouse through good housekeeping and quality control procedures.
- To work as part of a team with other warehouse operatives to load and unload materials in timely fashion
- To show courtesy and be helpful to customers/suppliers when collecting, delivering or returning materials to warehouse
- Maintain a safe workplace without risk to health by proper and timely assessment of risks to health and safety, and to implement measures and arrangements identified as necessary from the management
Forklift training
A current forklift licence or previous forklift experience would be an advantage, but it is not essential.
For the right candidate, we will arrange suitable external forklift training and assessment before you are authorised to operate forklift equipment. You must be willing to complete training and follow Company health and safety procedures at all times.
Company induction requirements confirm that forklift operators must be trained and authorised, and that recognised FLT operator certification and refresher training are required.
The person
We are looking for someone who is:
- Reliable, punctual and willing to learn.
- Safety-conscious when working around machinery, forklifts and moving stock.
- Able to work well as part of a team.
- Comfortable in a busy warehouse environment.
- Accurate when picking, checking and preparing orders.
- Able to follow instructions, paperwork and safe working procedures.
- Comfortable with manual handling, using the correct equipment and training.
- Able to communicate clearly with colleagues, supervisors, drivers, customers and suppliers.
Useful experience
The following would be beneficial but is not essential:
- Previous warehouse or stockholding experience.
- Experience working with metals, engineering materials or heavy goods.
- Forklift experience or a current forklift certificate.
- Experience using saws, cutting equipment or warehouse machinery.
- Goods-in, picking, packing, loading or dispatch experience.
- Van Delivery Driving
- Manual handling awareness.
- Basic numeracy and literacy.
Hours & Rewards
As a Warehouse Operative/Driver you will work Mon -Thur 08:00-17:00, Fri 08:00-15.30.
- Circa £26,500 per annum depending on hours worked
