Overview
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Laboratory Technician to join our molecular laboratory team. The role involves primary processing of blood and tissue samples and performing nucleic acid extraction procedures in accordance with established laboratory protocols and quality standards.
The ideal candidate will have strong laboratory skills, attention to detail, and the ability to maintain accuracy while handling biological specimens in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Receive, label, and process blood and tissue specimens for laboratory analysis
- Perform primary sample preparation according to standard operating procedures (SOPs)
- Conduct nucleic acid extraction (DNA/RNA) from various biological samples
- Maintain accurate documentation and laboratory records
- Follow quality control procedures and laboratory safety guidelines
- Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of biological materials
- Operate, clean, and maintain laboratory equipment
- Assist with inventory management and reagent preparation as required
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Life Sciences, or a related field
- Prior experience in molecular diagnostics or clinical laboratory settings is preferred
- Hands-on experience with blood/tissue processing and nucleic acid extraction techniques is an advantage
- Knowledge of laboratory safety practices and quality standards
- Good organisational and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team

Certification:
- Registration with a professional body as a Lab Technician is preferred.
- Certification in molecular biology or genetic testing is a plus.
Experience:
- A year of experience in molecular biology is preferred.

Working Conditions:
- Laboratory environment with exposure to biological and chemical hazards.
- Requires standing, sitting, and handling of specimens for extended periods.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
