- Support the design and development of mechanical components, systems, and fabricated structures.
- Prepare manufacturing drawings, bills of materials, and technical documentation.
- Work closely with production, purchasing, and quality teams to ensure designs are practical, cost-effective, and manufacturable.
- Review and update existing designs to improve performance, reliability, and efficiency.
- Participate in design reviews and contribute to continuous product improvement initiatives.
- Assist with design calculations, tolerance analysis, material selection, and structural assessments where required.
- Ensure drawings and designs comply with relevant industry standards, legislation, and company procedures.
- Support prototype builds, testing, and design validation where required.
- Troubleshoot design and manufacturing issues and recommend practical solutions.
- Maintain accurate records of design changes, generate and maintain accurate Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and Engineering Change Notices (ECNs)
- Assist with the preparation and maintenance of technical documentation including Certificates of Conformity (CoCs), registration documentation, technical files, and approval-related records.
- Support the creation and maintenance of operator manuals, technical guides, parts manuals, and customer documentation.
Essential Requirements

- Experience using SolidWorks Sheet Metal and Weldments features to design fabricated structures and production-ready components.
- Good understanding of mechanical design principles and manufacturing methods.
- Good understanding of engineering materials, including the properties, applications, and differences between sheet steel, structural steel sections, and other commonly used manufacturing materials.
- Ability to read and produce engineering drawings.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to manage workload and meet project deadlines.
- Practical problem-solving ability and willingness to learn.
Desirable Requirements
- Experience with sheet metal, fabrication, welding, machining, or trailer/vehicle-related design.
- Experience of trailer, commercial vehicle, agricultural, automotive, or heavy equipment design.
- Knowledge of materials, fasteners, hydraulics, or structural components.
- Familiarity with finite element analysis (FEA) tools and structural calculations.
- Understanding of vehicle legislation, type approval processes, engineering compliance requirements, and regulatory documentation.
- Knowledge of EU and UK vehicle type approval requirements, including Regulation (EU) 2018/858 and associated UNECE Regulations.
- Experience creating bills of materials and production documentation.
- Experience preparing Certificates of Conformity (CoCs), registration documentation, technical files, or approval-related documentation.
- Experience creating technical manuals, user guides, parts catalogues, or service documentation.
- Familiarity with design standards, tolerances, and quality procedures.
- Experience working with PDM or document control systems.
Qualifications
