ABOUT ASE AUTOGATE
ASE Autogate is a West Yorkshire-based specialist in the installation and maintenance of automated gates, barriers, doors and access control systems. With over 40 years of trading history, we work across domestic, residential and commercial sites throughout Yorkshire and the wider UK. We're growing quickly and we're looking for people who take real pride in their work.
THE ROLE
The groundworks are the foundation of every gate and barrier installation we carry out. If the measurements are off, if the posts aren't set correctly, if the geometry isn't right, the entire installation will be wrong. No amount of work from the automation engineer above ground will fix a bad foundation.
We're looking for a Groundworker who understands that. Someone who approaches every dig, every set, every pour with precision and care. Someone who reads a site correctly, takes accurate measurements, thinks about what the finished installation needs to look like, and works to that standard from the ground up.
If you've spent your career digging holes and filling them in, this probably isn't the right role. If you've spent your career understanding why every measurement matters and taking pride in foundations that set the rest of the job up for success - we want to hear from you.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
- Reading site plans, drawings and installation specifications and translating them accurately into groundworks on site
- Taking precise measurements and setting out gate post positions to exact geometry, getting this right is the most critical part of the job
- Excavating foundations to the correct depth, width and profile for each installation type
- Setting gate posts, barrier posts and steel support structures accurately in position, ensuring they are plumb, level and correctly aligned
- Mixing and pouring concrete to the correct specification and ensuring foundations are properly cured before handover to the install team
- Laying conduit and ducting for electrical cables in accordance with the installation design
- Backfilling, reinstating and finishing surfaces to a clean, professional standard
- Working alongside gate and barrier automation engineers, understanding what they need from the groundworks in order to complete the installation correctly
- Identifying and flagging any site issues, ground conditions, buried services, level changes, before they become problems
- Completing accurate records and site notes in BigChange (our job management system) at the end of each job
- Maintaining tools, plant and equipment in good working order
- Upholding ASE Autogate's standards of quality, safety and professionalism on every site
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Essential:
- Proven groundworks experience - excavation, post setting, concreting and surface reinstatement
- An exceptional eye for measurement and geometry - you understand that millimetres matter and you work accordingly
- Ability to read site drawings and installation plans and work accurately from them
- Experience setting posts or structures that require precise alignment - gates, fencing, bollards or similar
- Confident working with concrete - mixing, pouring and finishing to specification
- Physical fitness and the ability to carry out manual labour in varying site and weather conditions
- Full UK driving licence
- Strong communication skills - you'll be working alongside engineers and dealing with customers on site
- A methodical, detail-focused approach - you check your work before you move on

- Experience working on gate, barrier or access control installations

- You take as much pride in a job that's underground and invisible as one that everyone can see
