Workshop Generator Engineer About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Workshop Generator Engineer to join a busy service team based in Farnham. This role is responsible for the preparation, servicing, maintenance and repair of generators and power products, ensuring all equipment is built, inspected and dispatched to the required specification and quality standards.
The successful candidate will be involved in pre-delivery inspections (PDI), fitting accessories and attachments, diagnosing and repairing faults, carrying out servicing and maintenance, and ensuring the workshop is maintained to a high standard. You will also repair generators returned from the field and ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard.
Workshop Generator Engineer Key Responsibilities
- Carry out pre-delivery inspections (PDI) on generators and power products to the required quality standards and within agreed timescales.
- Prepare generators for dispatch, ensuring each unit meets the correct specification.
- Install accessories, attachments and optional equipment as required.
- Diagnose, fault-find and repair mechanical and electrical issues on generators and power products.
- Service, maintain and repair a wide range of generators within the workshop.
- Investigate technical faults and implement effective repair solutions.
- Safely move generators and power products within the workshop and yard.
- Complete engineering tasks, including working at height and underneath equipment where required.
- Maintain accurate job cards, service records, timesheets and associated paperwork.
- Order and request replacement parts efficiently to minimise downtime.
- Ensure all repairs and inspections comply with relevant procedures and industry standards.
- Keep the workshop and surrounding work areas clean, organised and safe.
- Ensure personal tools and equipment are maintained and comply with current safety requirements.
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues and customers.
- Present a professional attitude and appearance at all times.
- Take responsibility for your own health and safety, as well as that of colleagues and visitors.
Workshop Generator Engineer Skills & ExperienceEssential
- Minimum of 5 years' experience working with generators.
- Strong mechanical and electrical knowledge.
- Experience with diesel engines, alternators, control panels and wiring diagrams.
- Mechanical and electrical fault-finding experience.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to complete documentation accurately and on time.
- Competent in Microsoft Office applications.
Workshop Generator Engineer Desirable
- Relevant mechanical or electrical engineering qualifications.
- Experience working in a workshop environment servicing industrial power equipment.
