Are you a compassionate, motivated and a reliable care assistant who works well as part of a team, Newlands Care Home in Dunfermline is looking to recruit Relief Care Assistants. (We are not able to offer sponsorship at this time)
Relief Care Assistants must be flexible, able to work every second weekend and have some availability for covering short notice absences.
Newlands Care Home has a view to offer permanent hours to the right candidate.
We require you to be available every second weekend.
Some shifts may be rostered in advance to cover holidays, however their will also be the opportunity to cover further shifts at shorter notice to cover sickness/absence. The preferable candidates will live locally and be able to drive (although this is not essential). The availability of shifts will change from week to week.
Morning shifts start at 7am and finish at 1pm.
Afternoon shifts start at 1pm and finish at 6pm.
Backshift starts at 6pm and finishes as 10pm.
Nightshift starts at 10pm and finishes at 8am.

We are looking for experienced care assistants who understand that this is a physically demanding role and reliability and good time keeping skills are essential.

Care assistants need to have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work with all kinds of people, in situations which can be stressful or emotionally challenging. More specifically they should have:
- A friendly approach and the ability to put residents at ease, whatever their physical or social needs
- The ability to be tactful and sensitive at all times
- A good sense of humour
- Respect for the resident and their families
- A high level of patience as some residents do experience stress and distress.
- A good knowledge of basic health care and hygiene standards

- Manual dexterity and a certain level of physical strength
- The ability to stay calm under pressure
- A commitment to the job, the residents and their families
- The ability to think quickly and solve problems as they arise
All candidates must be registered with the protection of Vulnerable Groups Scheme, this can be arranged by the home (PVG).
We are preferably looking for people with 12 months experience in a care home setting, however this is not essential. Previous care experience however is essential. You will be asked about your experience in your interview.
All employees working in care must now be registered with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) within 3 months of starting employment. You will be asked to register after 6 weeks. You will be employed on a 6 month probationary period.
All care staff must be willing to work towards an SVQ2 or equivalent if they do not already have this qualification within 3 years of taking up this care post. Part funding through the SAAS is available for completion of SVQ 2 and SVQ 3 qualifications.
All staff will receive a full induction programme which involves several weeks shadowing with experienced staff members and allowing time for you to get to know the residents fully. You will complete Moving and Handling training, fire training and online e-learning training during this induction.
