Manual Turner

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Full-time Manual Turner to join our clients dynamic manufacturing team. The ideal candidate will be proficient in operating a Colchester machine and have the ability to work from engineering drawings. Toolmaking skills are highly desirable but no essential for this position.

Key Responsibilities

Operate and maintain manual lathes, specifically Colchester machines, to produce high-quality components and parts
Interpret and work from engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications
Set up machines for each job, including selecting and mounting appropriate tools, fixtures, and workpieces
Perform precision measurements using various measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges
Ensure all produced parts meet quality standards and specifications
Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to machining processes and equipment
Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to all safety protocols and procedures
Collaborate with team members, engineers, and supervisors to improve production processes and efficiency
Assist in the development and implementation of new manufacturing techniques and procedures
Perform routine maintenance on machines and equipment to ensure optimal performance
Document work processes, production data, and quality control information as required
Train and mentor junior staff members in manual turning techniques and best practices

Required Qualifications

Proven experience as a Manual Turner, with a minimum of 3-5 years in a manufacturing environment
Proficiency in operating Colchester machines and other manual lathes
Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications
Excellent knowledge of machining processes, cutting tools, and materials
High level of accuracy and attention to detail
Proficient in using precision measuring instruments and gauges
Good problem-solving skills and ability to work independently
Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment
Physical stamina to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds
High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or apprenticeship in machining preferred

Desired Qualifications

Toolmaking skills and experience
Experience with other machining equipment such as milling machines and grinders
Understanding of lean manufacturing principles
