Overview
The Bike Mechanic role based at CycleHub.Org in Dundee will be responsible for repairing recycled bikes into a pre-delivery inspected fully-refurbished product. The individual will be responsible for the majority of refurbished bikes provision within the organisation and the lead for our ReCycles Access to Bikes impact project. The role also encompasses a wider event remit to deliver and support the delivery of Dr. Bikes and bike maintenance courses.
The role revolves around supporting our bike recycling operations to develop and increase output ensuring more people have access to good quality, affordable bikes.
Main Duties
This Bike Mechanic role will be responsible for the following duties:
- Coordination and delivery of the ReCycles Access to Bikes project from picklist to build stages including stock control for the ReCycles and warehouse areas
- Undertake pre-delivery inspections on recycled bikes turning them into refurbished good quality products for sale
- Planning and delivery of multiple events where required including Dr. Bikes and Bike Maintenance Courses
- Routine fleet bike and event kit servicing and inventory checks
- Additional mechanical support where required to cover leave periods across the wider team

The overarching aim of this role is to develop an incredible standard for refurbished bikes and ensure that those going out through our impact or profit generation arms meet the highest standard.
Qualitative key performance indicators that act as milestones towards the overarching aim are as follows:
- CycleHub.Org offers the highest level of quality on refurbished bikes in the region
- CycleHub.Org has a catalogue of refurbished bikes available at all times
- The ReCycles project is run smoothly and the staff member has full ownership of the model
- ReCycles picklists, preparation of bikes, deliveries, partners, and stock are updated regularly and the staff member understands what is required to meet client needs
- CycleHub.Org has an updates system where customers can view refurbished bikes online
- Refurbished and affordable bikes are uploaded to the above system with excellent information enabling the public to purchase confidently and quickly
- Bikes are packaged and prepared for shipping where required and returns processed smoothly
- Dr. Bike Events are delivered to a high quality standard each time and the staff member is an excellent advocate for the organisation when delivering
- The events kit and bike fleets operated by the organisation are routinely serviced and inventoried with any pressing requirements brought to the attention of the management team
- The staff member is known for their high quality bike maintenance courses and create an incredible experience for attendees.
- The processing team feel supported and are regularly informed of developments within the warehouse
Person Specification
Qualifications
Minimum of Velotech Silver qualification or equivalent experience
Willingness to undertake Disclosure Scotland PVG check
Additional cycling related qualification e.g.
Cycling Scotland / British Cycling
Current first aid certificate
Evidence of ongoing personal and professional development activities during career to date.
Experience/ Knowledge
Demonstrates a high level of health and safety knowledge
Extensive knowledge of bike servicing and maintenance
Ability to teach, mentor, train and deliver quality instruction
Demonstrates a good understanding of differentiation between necessary costs and preferential purchases
Experience implementing standard operating procedures and adapting to new regulations/legislation.
Capacity to be flexible and versatile in activity and programme preparation and delivery
Experience of working in a retail or warehouse working environment
Experience of working in the cycle industry and cycling product knowledge.
Previous employment in a similar role
Knowledge of some or all of the following:

- People development
- Voluntary/ health/ local government/ social enterprise structures and organisations at a local or national level.
Experience and knowledge of IT systems and Electronic Point of Sale eg. Square, Shopify, Citrus Lime
Experience of working with diverse communities
Experience of dropshipping or fulfilment processes for online orders
Development work experience in equivalent project based work
Knowledge of working on recycled bikes
