Job Description:
Key Responsibilities
As Health Safety Officer you will ensure that the business and its employees comply with safety legislation and that safety policies and practices are adopted and adhered to.
You will also plan, implement, monitor, and review protective and preventative safety measures.
Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- conduct risk assessments identifying hazards, conducting job hazard analysis when required and collaborating with Managers and Supervisors assist in implementation and control measures.
- Perform daily, weekly or monthly inspections of the plant to ensure compliance with safety standards.
- check policies and developed, updated, and are correctly implemented, providing guidance and training for all employees in line with the Companies safe system of working.
- Develop, update, and ensure implementation of company safety policies and procedures in line with regulations that are compliant with the Health and Safety at Work Act.
- lead in-house training with managers and employees relating to health and safety issues and risks and deliver regular toolbox talks on different elements of health and safety to ensure employees are given regular training and updates
- keep records of inspection findings and produce reports that suggest improvements.
- Investigating accidents, near-misses, and dangerous occurrences maintaining records of accidents, incidents, and safety inspections.
- recommend preventative measures and support Managers on any improvement and implementation plans.
- keep up to date with new legislation and maintain a working knowledge of all Health and Safety Executive (HSE) legislation and any developments that affect the manufacturing industry.
- produce management reports and create and manage information relating to accident rates and action taken.
- Produce bulletins for notice boards to demonstrate good practice in a manufacturing environment.
- Working with the Production and Maintenance Manager, ensure equipment is installed safely.
- advise on a range of specialist areas, e.g. fire regulations, hazardous substances, noise, safeguarding machinery, and occupational diseases.
- Work with the HR Department to arrange mandatory and relevant Occupational Health testing requirements.
- Organise and implement new starter training inductions to ensure new employees are fully aware of H & S practices and Policies.
- Co-ordinate and assist in emergency planning and response activities.
- Contribute towards ISO standards in place
Working hours are typically 8am to 5pm, Monday to Friday with 1 hour lunch. However, you may need to work irregular hours in the case of an accident relating to the night shift.
Skills & Qualifications
A Diploma in Health & Safety or a Minimum of -NEBOSH (or equivalent) with 3 years’ experience is essential (Your experience should be in a fast-moving manufacturing environment)
- excellent written and spoken communication skills to explain health and safety processes to employees and management. The ability to speak Punjabi would be desirable.
- presentation skills and the ability to understand and analyse complex information and present it simply and accurately.
- negotiating skills to convince managers/Directors of the need to implement and maintain safety standards that may compromise speed or efficiency in the organisation.

- organisation and time management skills
- an investigative mind with attention to detail with the ability to challenge a process or unsuitable practice.
- digital skills in order to produce reports, analyse data and engage with new software.

- an interest in the law and regulations surrounding the workplace.
- Ideally have a good understanding of environmental factors relating to a manufacturing business
