The Nunhead Gardener - South East London (SE15)
Part-time, 3 days/week | £30,000 - £33,000 FTE (pro rata: £18,000 - £19,800 actual)
We're The Nunhead Gardener - a family-owned, design-led garden and home brand that's grown from one derelict patch of bramble in Nunhead to five green oases across South and Central London. Since 2015, we've been on a mission to inspire and nurture a love of gardening, one plant, pot and pep talk at a time. And now we're looking for someone to help us tell that story properly.
The role
As our Marketing Communications Executive, you'll be the sole in-house marketer for the whole business - part strategist, part storyteller, part brand guardian. You'll shape the annual marketing calendar, run our social channels, keep our website fresh, write emails people actually want to open, and make sure every bit of in-store signage looks and sounds like us. You'll work closely with our Directors and the wider team, briefing in outside help where it's needed, and quietly becoming the person who knows what The Nunhead Gardener sounds like better than anyone. It's a three day-a-week role, so we've built it around clear priorities and high-impact work rather than busywork - plenty of autonomy, real ownership, and the chance to see your ideas land on our shelves, our socials and our shopfronts.
What you'll be doing
Planning - maintaining our marketing calendar around the seasons that matter (hello Christmas and Valentine’s), and helping Directors make sense of what’s working.
Digital - keeping our website and webshop fresh and optimised, writing email campaigns and in-store graphics that combine sharp copy with a good eye, and owning social media day to day (yes, that includes getting stuck in with a camera around our plants and stores).
Content & campaigns - dreaming up and delivering creative campaigns for our peak trading moments, and briefing photography, graphics and copy as needed.
Brand - acting as guardian of our tone of voice and look, across everything from POS to proposals.
Collaboration - working with our Directors, Operations team and Finance & Business Performance Analyst, and briefing freelancers or agencies when extra hands are needed.
A smaller, developing strand: helping get our EPOS-Mailchimp "Retail Intelligence" off the ground, using purchase history to build well-targeted promotions.
What you'll bring
- Marketing communications experience, ideally from retail, lifestyle or horticulture.
- A track record of planning and delivering campaigns across multiple channels.
- Confidence with digital marketing - SEO basics, email, social - and tools like Google Analytics, WordPress, Canva and Adobe Creative Suite.
- Strong copywriting and a good eye for design, whether that's an email or an in-store event graphic.
- Comfort behind a camera, and behind briefing others to help you create content.
- A knack for reading customer data and turning it into promotions people actually want.
- Independence, organisation, and resourcefulness - you'll be the marketing team, so you'll need to be.
- A genuine enthusiasm for plants, gardening and design-led retail (this one's non-negotiable - we'll know).
What's in it for you
- A rare chance to own marketing for a growing independent London brand - no committees, no red tape, just you and your ideas.
- A varied role mixing strategy with hands-on delivery, three days a week.
- Competitive salary (£30,000–£33,000 FTE, pro rata for 3 days), staff discount, and room to grow.
- A performance-related incentive tied to the revenue impact you help us deliver.
