This is a stand alone, hands on and practical role.
Reports To: General Manager
Job Purpose
To ensure the Garden Centre, Children’s Nurseries and surrounding grounds are well kept and in working order. To support the Retail Team with events and change of seasons which require renovations of existing customer spaces.
Role Responsibilities
- Carry out day-to-day repairs and maintenance across the site.
- Complete basic plumbing, carpentry, decorating and general building repairs.
- Undertake minor electrical maintenance (within competency), such as replacing light fittings, bulbs and sockets.
- Assemble and install shelving, furniture, fixtures and displays.
- Repair doors, locks, gates, fencing and other site infrastructure.
- Carry out painting, decorating and general refurbishment projects.
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests from department managers.
- Conduct routine inspections to identify maintenance issues before they become larger problems.
- Liaise with external contractors where specialist work is required.
- Ensure all work is completed safely and in line with Health & Safety requirements.
- Maintain tools, equipment and maintenance supplies.
- Support with seasonal projects, store changes and new installations as required.
Required qualifications & experience
- Previous experience in a handyman, maintenance or facilities role.
- Good all-round DIY skills, including basic carpentry, plumbing and decorating.
- The ability to diagnose and solve maintenance issues efficiently.
- A proactive approach with excellent problem-solving skills.
- The ability to prioritise workloads and work independently.
- Good communication skills and a positive attitude.
- Pride in maintaining high standards.
Preferred qualifications & experience
- Ability to take apart machines, equipment, or devices to remove and replace defective parts.
- Experience in carpentry (2 years).
- Experience in plumbing (2 years).
- Strong organizational and follow up skills.
- Eye for detail.
